Tanah Gajah, the legacy of Mr. Hendra Hadiprana - a renowned architect and interior decorator in Indonesia.

Inspired by the graceful Javanese culture and the vibrant Balinese culture, Mr. Hadiprana beautifully blends these two cultures in his designs and architectural works. In one of his monumental projects in the early 1990s, the Intercontinental Resort in Jimbaran, Bali, he drew inspiration from the Keraton (Royal Palace) in Java. He adopted the unique architectural feature of Siti Hinggil, which is a part of the palace buildings in Java that can still be witnessed today as heritage in Yogyakarta and Surakarta Kratons.

Siti Hinggil itself signifies an elevated area, where one must climb several steps to enter. Philosophically, it symbolizes a revered mountain. Siti Hinggil is located at the forefront of the Kraton. By raising the foundation of the building structure, when sitting in Siti Hinggil, the king, the royal family, and all guests not only occupy a respected place but also enjoy a panoramic view of the courtyard in front of the Kraton.

Mr. Hadiprana applied the concept of Siti Hinggil when designing the lobby of the Intercontinental resort in Jimbaran and combined it with the vibrant Balinese architecture and decoration. His vision was to create an elevated lobby similar to the concept of Siti Hinggil, allowing hotel guests to have the best view of the beautiful and majestic Indian Ocean without limits.

This fusion of Javanese and Balinese elements is also evident in Mr. Hadiprana's creation of Tanah Gajah as his former private residence where the lobby is elevated to showcase the tranquillity of the rice paddy fields and tropical gardens that surrounds the property. His design style is known for harmoniously combining the beauty and diversity of Indonesian culture to create a warm and captivating atmosphere. Tanah Gajah continues to be renowned as one of his masterpieces.
