A day in the life of Tanah Gajah's morning heroes

From the early morning hours, the dedicated team of Tanah Gajah Ubud's morning heroes, are hard at work ensuring that everything is in place for the day ahead.

From the early morning hours, while most of us are still deep in slumber, a dedicated team of individuals at Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana, are hard at work ensuring that everything is in place for the day ahead.

These are the morning heroes of Tanah Gajah, the behind-the-scenes team members who run the show in the wee hours of the day, ensuring that guests have a seamless and unforgettable experience during their stay.

From the culinary team preparing breakfast to the guest relations managers checking on villa amenities; and from the front office agents, attending to guests' needs, to the gardeners tending to the resort's stunning six-hectare gardens, these morning heroes work tirelessly to make sure every detail is taken care of.

Let us take a closer look at a day in the life of these dedicated staff members.

Meet Edy, Commis Chef at The Tempayan restaurant. Edy is one of the culinary team members who is responsible for ensuring that everything is ready for the busy breakfast service. He rises early every day, to make sure that everything is perfect. Recently married, Edy is excited about his new role as a husband and is grateful for the discipline and responsibility that he has learned from his six years at Tanah Gajah.

"Although sometimes it's a challenge to wake up that early," he says, "I do enjoy gazing at the sunrise on my way to work. The golden rays I see every morning give me hope for a brighter future."

Edy is not alone in his dedication to the team at Tanah Gajah. The resort's culture emphasizes a strong sense of teamwork, and every member is valued for their strengths and supported in their weaknesses. The staff at Tanah Gajah are not just colleagues, but also a family who works together towards a common goal.

Next up is Sutari, the guest relations manager. Sutari is one of three managers who rotate as a duty manager, starting early in the morning to ensure that the entire operation team gets the resort ready for the day. She liaises with butlers to ensure that all villas are ready for arrivals, and she also coordinates with the public area attendants to ensure that all public facilities are fresh. With two children at home, Sutari wakes up early every day to take care of her household chores before coming to work.

"Having a duty manager role in the resort is quite a challenge," she says, "but I am very lucky to have a supportive team at Tanah Gajah, which has made my tasks feel much lighter."

Kadek Yong, a front office agent, works in the morning to attend to guests' needs on the resort’s personalised WhatsApp groups. She communicates with the operation team to ensure they are prepared for guest arrivals. She also prepares and checks the bills for departing guests. As a Balinese, Kadek Yong values her cultural traditions and appreciates the flexibility and support she receives from Tanah Gajah to attend religious ceremonies.

"Tanah Gajah Ubud has been very supportive and flexible in arranging our schedule," she says, "allowing us to live a balanced life side by side with our cultural traditions."

Budiarta, a gardener, is up at 6 am to support the team in attending the hot air balloon operation that starts at 6:30 am. After the hot air balloon operation, Budiarta and his colleagues pick up their boots, rakes, baskets, and brooms to clear out the dried leaves around the resort's six hectares of garden. They also feed the white and black swans twice daily. Budiarta is also one of the dancers in Tanah Gajah's iconic Kecak dance performance that takes place on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

"Working at Tanah Gajah Ubud allows me to connect deeply with nature," he says. "Kecak dance has been a part of the Hadiprana family tradition since the beginning of Tanah Gajah in the 1980s, and I am very proud to represent Balinese culture every time I'm performing, knowing that this tradition will be passed on to generations to come"

Say hello to Ayu, the waitress at The Tempayan Restaurant, who welcomes guests and assists with breakfast service. On the days when she works in the morning, she normally starts by attending guests who come early in the morning for the hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Later in the morning, Ayu will normally welcome resort guests and assist them with serving Tanah Gajah’s signature Mie Goreng, eggs benedict, omelette, healthy juice, Jamu of the day, pastries and other delicious breakfast items.

"I love the feeling when we can be the first smile that our resort guests see in the morning and the mornings are always the best time for us to chat with our guests to find out about the exciting day they have planned ahead."
